Luna

When I was working in Australia 12 years ago, I had the opportunity to take my family with me. It was great, except… My son Neal did not adjust to the different culture. Change was (and is) hard for him. The fam ended up going back early, and in order to help Neal my wife bought him a beagle puppy. Luna.

She is… No, was… A handful. She was never housebroken, she ate WAY too much, and she was not very affectionate.

Early last week we saw something was wrong with our now 11 year old beagle Luna. We took her to our vet, and they gave us a very dire prognosis. She was in hospital until Friday.

She seemed fine on Friday, and then yesterday she was VERY stressed. Panting, not eating, and very upset.

We were going to take her back to the vet first thing Monday. This afternoon I took her for a short walk in our front yard, and she seemed to relax and calm down, sitting in the sun.

I took her back inside, went to my office, and then she died.

My son Neal is already suffering from some emotional issues. He’s now a complete wreck, as Luna was HIS dog. He was already beginning to face the possibility of us having to put her to sleep, but this. This was… Sudden.

My youngest son Mike helped me bury her. He was putting on a brave face, but this ended after we were done. He sat at the grave for hours.

I’m not doing much better myself.

Hug your pets. Love them as much as you can. Because before you know it, they aren’t there anymore.
