My best and worst of the Disney Parks

I hate to admit it but I have spent a LOT of time in the Disney Park – Since I’m only an 8 hour drive from Orlando I have visited Walt Disney World at least once a year for the past ten. I’ve also gone top Disneyland a half-dozen times and this year I even Visited Tokyo Disneyland. I also enjoy watching videos about the parks and one of my favorites comes from the DIS Unplugged channel. They have a regular series called The Best and Worst of Disney, and here’s an example:

Because of my frequent visits, I’ve developed my own list of my favorites (and least favorite) attractions, and here they are. Since this is my opinion and not authoritative, you can also read this as “least favorite” and “most favorite”.

Worst Attractions (from most to least worst)

Primeval Whirl
This “rollercoaster” attraction in Animal Kingdom in Dinoland USA is not only themed in the most garish way possible, it is also the most uncomfortable ride I have ever been in. It jerks you around horribly, and I am literally sore after riding it. It’s awful.

Tomorrowland Speedway
It is a horrible ride, powered by ancient diesel engines that has single-handedly caused global warming. It was fun when you have an 8 year old “:driving” but otherwise it’s a waste of space.

Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor
It’s funny after the first time, but now it’s just sad. It’s the same show, every time. And even when they tweak things it’s just rough.

Swiss Family Treehouse
This is basically Stairs, the ride. If you need to get your step goal for the day and get some cardio, then feel free to enjoy this one.

Mickey’s Philharmagic
This show is long past it’s prime, and needs to be refreshed/retired. Again, it was great – once. Repeated viewing ends up be a chore.

Other candidates (that didn’t make the Top 5 Worst list):

  • Na’vi River Journey
  • Journey Into Imagination With Figment
  • It’s Tough to be a Bug
  • Enchanted Tiki Room

Best Attractions (from best to least best)

Haunted Mansion
My all-time favorite ride, and my wife’s favorite as well. We never miss a chance to visit, and I’m still haunted by the ghost that followed me home…

Big Thunder Mountain
This is the best rollercoaster in all the parks, and I can’t decide which one I like more – I’ve ridden three different versions. I think the Disneyland one is smoother, but the DisneySea one is the best version I’ve experienced.

Sidebar: If you can afford to go to Japan and visit Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea, GO. It’s an amazing park.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
This is a great ride, and as a fan of the Twilight Zone I look forward to it every trip. Hope they will never replace/change this ride (as they did in Disney California Adventure).

Tomorrowland Transit Authority
This is a great ride to take, especially if it’s hot and you need a break. One of those classic Disney rides that you can just sit back and enjoy.

Journey To the Center of the Earth (Tokyo DisneySea)
This was my favorite ride at Tokyo Disney, a rollercoaster that has multiple interactive elements and lets you “journey to the Earth’s core.” Just terrific.

Other candidates (that didn’t make the Top 5 Best list):

  • Pooh’s Honey Hunt (Tokyo Disney Land)
  • Indiana Jones Adventure (Disneyland)
  • Avatar Flight of Passage
  • Pirates of the Caribbean (Tokyo Disneyland)
  • Mission Space
  • Space Mountain (Disneyland)
