Reflections on the new Apple products…

Quick opinions on the new products announced (and not yet released in some cases) by Steve Jobs at Macworld today.

Wow, MacBook Air is sexy… and, like an upper-class whore experienced in the ways of pleasure, expensive. Plus, to make everything fit, it’s all hard-wired, so no hard drive or ram upgrades out of the factory. Pass.

Apple TV Take 2 is… STILL $20 too expensive, even after they dropped the price to $229. PLUS they really did not have the software ready, and the local apple store confirmed to me that the new “OS” will not ship till the end of January. I’m tempted (I have a LOT of media on my iMac) but may hold off purchasing (I think they’ll upgrade the hardware to higher than 780p by Christmas, but that’s just me).

Movie Rentals is a big “meh” for me – I don’t even have time, with three sons and a lot of extra-curricular activities, to catch up on most of what I have on my DVR (I have 7 episodes of Lost and 8 episodes of House still to watch – yes, I still haven’t finished last season yet). So… meh.

iPhone updates: Not installing 1.1.3 till a jailbreak is out (come on Erica et al, get crackin’!)

Time Capsule: WILL get, soon. The idea of wireless backups is very appealing and as most good 500gb external drives are $130, the notion of having an airport/backup drive for $300 is a deal.

And that’s my two cents… LOTS of stuff was left unmentioned (SDK for iPhone, 3G iPhone, Leopard update) and I think, at least for the iPhone stuff, we’ll see another event announced by March to cover that…
