The Space: 1999 Eagle 1 Spaceship from Mattel may be the coolest toy ever

I am a rabid toy collector, and I am particularly interested in science fiction toys of the 70s and 80s. I have a whole storage/display area behind my home office filled with Star Trek, Micronauts, G.I.Joes, and Star Wars collectibles. In my years of collecting, I have had two “white whales” that I have been chasing. The first, the USS Flagg aircraft carrier play set from the G.I.Joe 1985 toy line, is still too pricey for my tastes. The other… I finally acquired.

It is the Space: 1999 Eagle 1 spaceship toy from Mattel. Released in 1976, it is two and a half-feet of awesome. While it’s far from accurate, it’s a fine representation of one of my favorite sci-fi vehicles. And even cooler, a company named Shado-X Collectibles sells reproduction stickers for the toy (as well as stickers that make it look much more like the shooting models used on the series). I stayed up late last night painting and cleaning up the toy, then applying the stickers and… well, here’s some pics:

Sure is purty, ain’t it?
