The latest Apple rumor is that Wal-mart will start selling the iPhone after Christmas for $99. The model will supposedly be the 4 GB model that is no longer being sold.
I am totally believing this rumor, because the price point for the 3G iPhone is too high for a lot of people and, while Apple wants to sell their products at a premium, they also want market share (as does AT&T). The good news for me is that if this does happen this will pretty much guarantee that we’ll see a new 32 GB iPhone in January for $300 (Apple loves staggering prices based on storage, and this will mean we will have the following pricing tier: 4GB $99ish, 16GB $199, 32GB $300).
I did not upgrade to a 3G iPhone yet (have a first ten phone that is 15 months old now), as I knew that Macworld would mean a probable price drop/product rev, and I need more than 16GB. I just hope I’ll have a job by the end of January so I can afford one…
