U.N.C.L.E. a day, day 13: “The Dove Affair”

U.N.C.L.E. a day is my obsessive-compulsive approach at working through The Complete Man for U.N.C.L.E., now available on DVD. One episode, one review a day (usually – occasional hiatuses may occur due to travel).

Wowsers! What a way to start an episode! A group of touring students and their teacher are viewing the tomb of a recently deceased Russian Premiere and the wall behind them suddenly explodes. In jumps Napoleon Solo, who proceeds to smash open the glass top of the tomb and grab a silver Dove pendant off the body. That’s in the first minute…

Another solid episode, supported by two great guest stars. June Lockhart plays the school teacher “innocent” whose class field trip was interrupted by Solo’ explosion mentioned above. You will recognize her as the mom from Lassie and Lost in Space (wow, two LIS actors guest-starring in a row – weird coincidence). And as the main protagonist, Satine?

Ricardo Montalban. KHAANNNNN!

Another Illya-free episode, though it was about the time this episode aired that the show was moved to another timeslot… And the character of Illya was about to be come very very popular, and the era of Illlya-free episodes was about to come to an end.
