iPocalypse Now… iPhone 2.0 is here, but many can’t get it activated…

WOW, lots of bad press for Apple and AT&T today. Thousands of customers nationwide flock to their stores to get the new 3G iPhone and… the AT&T activation servers can’t handle the traffic and start pining for the fjords. Customers leave with their shiny new phones after being told to activate them via iTunes at home “later”… but iTunes is accessing the same activation servers the AT&T stores are, and they are down.

At the same time thousands of people go to upgrade their 1st gen iPhones via itunes… and they can’t download the update, due to traffic. Or they end up with a temporarily “bricked” phone because once the new software is installed, guess what users have to do? Yup, activate thier phone. Using the servers that are, ahem, unavailable.

Oh, and that cool new revision/replacement of .mac, MobileMe? It’s completely snafu’d as well.

LOTS of not-so-happy-customer comments here (warning, not safe for work language is often used).
