Thanks to Mark Evanier for bring to my attention the death of Steve Gerber, who created the classic comic book character Howard the Duck (please ignore the movie, he had nothing to do with it) and wrote many many great comics I have read over the years. Steve was also involved in writing some great episodes of the G.I.Joe cartoon, of which I (obviously, if you browse this site) a big fan.
