New This Week in Geek website highlights the latest news in geek culture
Atlanta, GA July 24th 2012 — The new web site This Week in Geek showcases the latest news and articles about all things geek. Launched in order to cover the 2012 San Diego Comic Con, the site aggregates the most popular #geek stories in social media.
"As you can see from the success of The Walking Dead and The Big Bang Theory, geek is now chic," explains Joseph Dickerson, creator and editor of This Week in Geek. "We wanted to create a destination for fans of all kinds of shows to go to, to find out what's going on."
Serendipity plays a big part in making the site successful. "Aggregating all types of content from round the web, sometimes you find some fantastic stuff - be it fan art or essays, or videos made that look as good as a feature film. We are thrilled at the idea of being able to showcase this rich and cool content for our visitors.
While This Week in Geek is, like its name says, a site that is updated weekly, Dickerson says if something "super-geekery" happens in the middle of the week he will add that content to the site in realtime. "And when huge fan events like San Diego Comics Con or a huge movie premiere happens, we will update the site pretty much every day."
Dickerson consults with several experts in “High Geekery” to identify what to cover, including the creators of the DVD Geeks podcast (http://www.dvdgeeks.tv). In the future, Dickerson hopes to increase the topics the site covers to dive more into technology and science, in addition to pop culture. "We'll go where our readers want to go, obviously, but we also want to dive into subjects that we are interested in."
Fans can subscribe to the site via e-mail and will get updates when the latest stories are posted, and visitors also access a mobile version of the site on their smartphones. The site is powered by the Paper.li publishing platform.
