Thursday September 8th was the 50th anniversary of the airing of the first episode of Star Trek, “The Man Trap”. On that day I was in Washington DC for business, and before I arrived I realized I was only a short Uber trip from the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum… and I had a long break in the middle of the day.
And the Enterprise was there.
This last year, the original 12-foot shooting model of the Enterprise has undergone extensive restoration, and was recently put on display in the lobby of the Air and Space Museum. I had wanted to plan a trip just to see it, and here fortune had granted me a great gift: I could go see the restored model on the ACTUAL 50th Anniversary.
You can guess what I did… I of course brushed off the chance and stayed in my hotel room to read email. OF COURSE I went to see the Enterprise, and was not disappointed. Such ample nacelles! It’s a thing of beauty, especially since they took all the horrible airbrushing off the model that was done to it in the 1990s (It was shoved into a case in the gift shop/basement of the museum – not kidding).
Without any more rambling, here’s the pics.
