It depends. Do you want the website to be about your passions or a promotional vehicle for your career? If your website is about your love for knitting and you also happen to have a post or two on UX, then that website will probably not help promote your capabilities in the UX profession. But if you REALLY love knitting, then go for it!
And when it comes to having a website, its really not that hard – you can register the domain and get cheap or free hosting almost anywhere – and you don't need to code to have one, with systems like WordPress and Squarespace out there. I use WordPress on my server myself…
