Happy 50th Anniversary, Lost In Space!

This is a month of geek anniversaries… Today, 50 years ago, the first episode of Lost in Space aired. While it was – and is – very much a “kids show” compared to shows like Star Trek or The Twilight Zone, it still had its charms.

I have never been much of a hard core fan, though I do love the retro-futuristic designs of the Jupiter 2 and Robot.

The show spawned an animated pilot (which was not picked up), a big-budget film (which fans don’t want to talk about), and a planned 2004 revival (that never made it to series, but sets from the pilot ended up being used on the revival of Battlestar Galactica).

The show has finally come out on blu-ray (it’s being released today, as a matter of fact) and I’ve heard the remastering is fantastic. If you’re interested, pick it up.
