Sears Christmas catalog pages show the height of Transformers awesomeness

One of my hobbies is collecting old Christmas catalogs, because these catalogs were my gateway into geekdom. Every September, we would get the Sears and JCPenney catalogs, and I would stare at the toy section for HOURS. Any proper Christmas wish list wasn’t started until those catalogs arrived.

What is so great about looking at those catalogs now is that they are a time capsule of awesomeness… and nothing was more awesome when I was a kid than Transformers.

Look at all that. You have Soundwave, and his various transforming cassettes. You have the Dinobots. You have OMEGA SUPREME. This is pure coolness, distilled into a yellowed catalog page.

Look, it’s Devastator! And finally, the best Transformer ever: JETFIRE. One of my friends had Jetfire, and I was SO jealous. It was one of my most coveted toys of my youth, and I STILL don’t have that damn thing because it is SO expensive now. As I grew older, I found out that the toy was based on a Robotech vehicle… and this got me into THAT show.

Someday I aspire to be independently wealthy so I can complete my collection of Transformers toys… of course, this may result in me getting divorced…
