Micronauts ads!

I LOVED the Micronauts toy line from Mego. Loved loved loved it. I played with Micronauts even more than the Star Wars toy line, and I was a huge Star Wars fan.

There was just something about the Micronauts that appealed to me. It was a building toy as well as sci-fi, and it was also chock-full of robots and aliens and space vehicles. When you are a 10-year old boy, that is pretty much everything you need for hours of play. Add to that the amazing comic book Marvel produced by Bill Mantlo and Michael Golden, you have a perfect storm of geeky awesomeness.

Here’s some of the great ads made to sell the line, as well as a Sears Wishbook page:

SearsWishbook.1979C.P616A GALAXY OF ADVENTURE! No idea how a girl got in there to play with such cool toys… Must have not locked the door to the photography studio.

The goofiest item in the Micronauts line is here: the carrying case they sold for the figures. It was shaped like a robot, and was called KARRIO. Real original. That’s like calling a bad guy figure MEANO.

The most incredible starship ever! Umm, I think the crew of the starship Enterprise may have a bone to pick with that statement…

Biotron. Ah, yes. I still remember sneaking into my parents’ bedroom to find what Christmas toys they had bought for me. I spied a half-opened Sears shipping box under their bed and in it was Biotron! I opened the packaging and lovingly admired the figure, and then resealed the tape so they wouldn’t notice.

They did.
