LINK: Battlestar Galactica: the Complete Series on blu-ray, reviewed

You know, I am really conflicted sometimes.

As the responsible head of my household, I need to plan for my family’s future and make sure that we have money saved for any rainy days that may come. And then, when I read this review of the new Battlestar Galactica: The complete series on blu-ray… I wince.

Gods damn it, I want this. I want this thing somethin’ fierce. But reality, and it’s cold pragmatism, gets in the way.

My oldest son needs braces. The air conditioner needs repair. The decks need treating. And I don’t really NEED to buy this very expensive box set.

One of the happiest moments I had last year was meeting members of the Galactica cast at Dragon*con and thanking them for their work (and I’ll be doing it thing again this Labor Day weekend, with Mary McDonnell and Eddie Olmos, who was frakkin’ ROBBED of an Emmy nod today). I was happy because I was able to express my gratitude to the actors who brought this show’s great writing to life so affectively… it’s a show I miss, just like I miss Homicide or Twin Peaks. Shows that affected me in a real and potent way, and then… were gone.

Sigh. Maybe I can get this set someday… if I can keep my job, that is.
