I love Superman. I think the first Christopher Reeve movie is a wonderfully crafted take on the character that is letter-perfect (well, except for the ending and that horrible “can you read my mind?” song). The “sequel” to Superman II that came out two years ago, Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns, is another matter. I was very disappointed (read my review) and, if anything, my opinion of the movie has become even harsher in the past months.
Well, the movie has its fans, as I know full well when I got involved in a vicious on-line debate on the film’s merits on AICN (I said the film was weak sauce and Singer would never get a chance to do another Supes flick, the fans argued otherwise). Guess what? Variety had an interview with Warner Bros’ Jeff Robonov: Singer’s out and Superman is being rebooted.
