Belated Movie Review: Futurama: Bender’s Big Score

Great news everyone!

I finally got a chance to watch the brand new (OK, RECENTLY new) feature length episode of Futurama: Bender’s Big Score.

I loved it. While not up to the high quality of the best of the Futurama episodes, it was highly entertaining, and, while the protagonists (alien spammers who end up taking over the Earth) were not really that threatening, the time-travel aspect of the movie rivaled the second Back to The Future when it comes to temporal twists (and Seymour got to see Fry again! Hooray! At least, before Bender killed him…).

I was fortunate enough to watch a tremendous number of episodes with my three sons over the holidays thanks to the last Futurama marathon that Cartoon Network showed (they lost the broadcast rights to Comedy Central) which was the perfect way to prepare for the movie, due to all the tie-ins to the previous episode’s continuity. If you don’t have some base knowledge of the show before watching, you may have some problems… which should be immediately fixed by going out and buying all the DVD seasons sets and watching them.

I won’t spoil any (more) of the movie but I will say this: Al Gore. Don’t like him much in the poiltical world, but he’s in the film and he’s awesome.

And don’t miss the full episode of Everyone Loves Hypnotoad! included in the DVD extras! It… was… great…Highly… Recommended..
