Ah, the warm sweet smell of MST3K…

I was discussing with my friend Tony at lunch the other day how much we missed Mystery Science Theatre 3000. For years it was “appointment television” for fans of bad cinema nationwide: every Saturday afternoon you had MST3K and for two hours, all was right with the world.

Well, it’s gone, but is not forgotten Mike Nelson, former head writer and star of the last seasons of the show is doing Rifftrax, where you can buy audio tracks that mock popular films a la MST3K (Kevin Murphy, who also was a performer on the show, joins Mike on some of them). And you can also visit the Satellite News site run by Bad Brains, Inc., the MST3K production company, which is still going strong. And, of course, you can buy the DVD collections…

Or…

You can watch whole episodes, LOTS of them, for free on Google Video or YouTube. Bad Brains, Inc. has posted the films so you can watch them with a clear conscience. You can even download them to your ipod, to watch on the go.

Man, I love the Internet.

Finally, to get the geek level of this posting up to 11, here’s the opening theme, covered by Man or Astroman:
