Quotes from last week’s Mobile Financial Service Congress in Miami, FL

Had the great privilege to attend the Mobile Financial Service Congress last week in Miami (at the beautiful Biltmore Hotel) and here are some quotes from the panels I attended that seemed notable.

“Lots of the banks out there have a horrible mobile presence. It’s the equivilent of having the sign hanging half-off the branch and the floors being dirty.”

“60% of adults use mobile devices for non-voice activities.”

“Mobile devices will evolve into a payment device, once the point of sale infrastructure is there.”

“We are the last generation to know of the world before the Internet.”

“We are moving to customer-managed relationships, away from customer relationship management. Retention in such a user-centered space becomes even more important.”

“The big question is who is going to reach the customers first when it comes to mobile payments and money movement – the carriers hold the key to the kingdom and they do not want to be just a “dumb pipe” – carriers are used to getting HALF of the revenue from value-added services such as games and ringtones. Carriers have everything they need to launch thier own payment network.”
