Being a huge fan of Patrick McGoohan, I was pretty disappointed/ticked off at his omission from the In Memorium segment on the Oscars Sunday. Well, I was not the only person who noticed – This posting from Mark Evanier takes the Academy to task as well, and lists a whole lot more people who were not recognized, including the great voiceover man Don LaFontaine…
Maybe if you had a capital letter in the middle of your name you were automatically disqualified…

This article/review of the new movie Watchmen (based on the Best. Comic. Ever) compares it to The Godfather. If this is so, I may lose control of all my bodily functions next Friday when it opens and I finally get a chance to view it. Gods Damn it, I want to see this NOW!!!!

I’m a HUGE Orson Welles fan, as big (pun unintended when it comes to Orson) as they come, and this article has quotes from people involved in the making and support of his last film, The Other Side of the Wind, saying that they are very close to resolving the legal issues/editing the original footage together. Heck, Welles friend and scholar Peter Bogdanvich says that they are close to having a print ready by Cannes, in TWO MONTHS.
Wow.
The fact that the movie also starred noted direct John Huston makes this all the more exciting…
Film gods, PLEASE make this happen.

Good grief, here’s ANOTHER reason not to watch the Oscars: Peter Gabriel, one of my favorite artists, has declined to perform “Back to Earth”, the nominated song from Wall-E, because the producers only gave him 65 seconds on-air! Way to go, producers, truncate one of the most enjoyable parts of the Academy Awards! Here’s the gory details…
I wonder who will perform the song… Phil Collins?
