Star Trek, the fragrance?

by Joseph on January 29, 2009

Trekmovie.com has news of a merchandising blitz planned around Star Trek in anticipation of the forthcoming reboot/prequel/sequel movie. We are getting board games, sleepware, posters, toys… And fragrances.

“Tiberius”, “Red Shirt” and “Pon Farr” are the names.

I don’t know. I have never had the urge to smell like Captain Kirk, personally, but hey, what do I know? There may yet be a market for this.

$1900 for Colonel Tigh’s liquor bottle? $4000 for Admiral Cain’s razor? Wow, I wish I had more money than sense. Here’s the list of the final prices.

And here’s a look at the auction with some cast commentaries…

Reax to Oscar Nominations: Meh.

by Joseph on January 23, 2009

Wow, the Oscar nominations were announced yesterday and I’m kind of stunned. No Dark Knight for best picture. No nomination for Darren Aronovski for The Wrestler. No nomination of Springsteen’ song from The Westler. No nomination for Clint Eastwood for Gran Torino, which is probably his last performance as an actor. No nomination for best score for The Dark Knight. Only one nomination for In Bruges. No special effects nomination for Speed Racer (it may have bombed but the effects work was fantastic).

Robert Downey Jr. nominated for Tropic Thunder? Tons of nominations for The Reader, a sub-par film according to every critic who has seen it? A ton of love for Benjamin Button, and Frost/Nixon? REALLY?

For the first time in a long time, I see no reason to watch this year’s Academy Awards. And I LOVE movies.

Nikke Finke has a similar response.

Man, THIS is how you do viral video to promote a movie. Please find, courtesy of The New Frontiersman, a clip from the 1970 NBS Nightly News, covering the 10th Anniversary of Doctor Manhattan.

And here’s a shot of Doc on the moon, photographing Neal Armstrong:

The guy behind The Digital Bits got a chance to go to the gallery that is holding items to be sold off (CORRECTION: that was sold off this past weekend) for the Battlestar Galactica auction – here’s some fraktastic pictures…

UPDATE: And here’s the link to the full auction catalog, in PDF form. Wow, would I love to have the Colonial One Presidential Podium or Adama’ desk…
