Now THIS is what would convince me to finally buy a blu-ray player…

The British Film Board announced that they have approved 84 minutes of extras for The Godfather Trilogy remastered DVD collection, dated 2008.

No more details are available (and Paramount has not formally announced this release) BUT I’m pretty confident we will see another release of these films on DVD and POSSIBLY blu-ray this year (just in time for Christmas I assume).

I have all on DVD (yes, even the third one) and, while the transfers look pretty good to me, I can see many opportunities to remaster the picture and sound (if only they could “remaster” Sophia Coppola out of the last movie, or James Caan’s really bad stunt punching out of the first one).

If this comes out then count me in.

It’s nothing personal. It’s strictly business.

Thanks to The Digital Bits for the news and link….

Jennifer Saunders as the next Doctor Who?

by Joseph on April 4, 2008

WILD rumor from my favorite Who rumor site says that, while Robert Carlyle is still the (close to final) choice for the next Doctor (suppossedly the Christmas episode this year will be current Doctor David Tennant’s last) there will be a problem with the regeneration… and for a while he’ll be played by Absolutely Fabulous‘ Jennifer Saunders.

This is actually a rumor I’d love to see happen… for a couple of reasons.

First, I love Jennifer Saunders, especiallly when she works with Dawn French.

Second because this would mean that both stars of Absolutely Fabulous will have then “played” The Doctor, as Jennifer’s colleague Joanna Lumley portrayed the part in the fantastic Doctor Who parody The Curse of Fatal Death.

Jerry Beck at Cartoon Brew has already done many articles on this, so I won’t rehash their points (but I will summarize): Cartoon Network has become less and less like a cartoon network and more like a Nickelodeon knock-off over the past year.

Apparently that is changing. They just had their “up-fronts” for advertisers and the network is putting a lot of new cartoons on the air as well as investing in a “CARTOONISTUTE” that will be headed by Craig McCracken where 150 artists and writers will create new work exclusively for the channel. Smart. Very smart.

Oh, and they’ll also be showing the new animated Star Wars series. And a new Batman cartoon (now they just need to rehire Kevin Conroy to voice him).

Details here.

Well, you UK folks will see the Series 4 premiere of Doctor Who this weekend…

US folks in the states have to wait until April 18th for new Who (Sci-Fi will broadcast last years Christmas special) and we’ll see the premiere the Friday following…

Man, if only there was some sort of peer-to-peer service that would allow American viewers to download a digital copy of the premiere after it debuts on Saturday night. That would be so cool… if such a system existed.

Ahem.

But that, of course, would be wrong.

Very wrong.

I’ll write up my thoughts on the premiere as soon as I see it…

Monday, probably.
