Ah, the warm sweet smell of MST3K…

by Joseph on February 25, 2007

I was discussing with my friend Tony at lunch the other day how much we missed Mystery Science Theatre 3000. For years it was “appointment television” for fans of bad cinema nationwide: every Saturday afternoon you had MST3K and for two hours, all was right with the world.

Well, it’s gone, but is not forgotten Mike Nelson, former head writer and star of the last seasons of the show is doing Rifftrax, where you can buy audio tracks that mock popular films a la MST3K (Kevin Murphy, who also was a performer on the show, joins Mike on some of them). And you can also visit the Satellite News site run by Bad Brains, Inc., the MST3K production company, which is still going strong. And, of course, you can buy the DVD collections…

Or…

You can watch whole episodes, LOTS of them, for free on Google Video or YouTube. Bad Brains, Inc. has posted the films so you can watch them with a clear conscience. You can even download them to your ipod, to watch on the go.

Man, I love the Internet.

Finally, to get the geek level of this posting up to 11, here’s the opening theme, covered by Man or Astroman:

New G.I.Joe Club site

by Joseph on February 23, 2007

…And just as I realized I was being remiss in my geek duties to not have posted a Trek entry before today, so to am I remiss in not mentioning that my pal Lanny Lathem recently posted a new and improved G.I.Joe Collectors Club site. Lanny moved from Atlanta to Texas to go to work for the club and has done a great job helping them out. I urge anyone interested in Joe collecting to join as they have a free 12″ or 3 3/4″ figure this year (your choice) and some great content in thier monthly newsletter. Details, of course, are at the aforementioned new web site, http://www.gijoeclub.com.

And, just for the heck of it, here’s a commercial (crappy quality but it’s Bulletman!):

Ok, one more:

Sweaterboy!

I’ve been off my game – almost two months posting with a WordPress blog (after abandoning iweb) and I have yet to post a Trek entry. Geez.

Anyway, Wil Wheaton has been doing retro-reviews of episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation for TV Squad, and thier damn good (and funny, too).

I had the pleasure to chat online with Wil a couple of times and he’s a classy guy. Keep em coming, man!

Check them out here…
